FILE : Milano Duomo 7
TITLE : Noli me tangere

LOCATION: Milano, Cathedral, window nXIX , panel 2a

DIMENSIONS: 120 x 60 cms.

PROVENANCE: Milano,Cathedral, New Testament window (s II)

CHRONOLOGY: about 1567

AUTHOR: Currado Mochis da Colonia on cartoons by Carlo Urbini da Crema (attribution)

SUBJECT(S): Saint Mary Magdalene meets Jesus dressed like a farmer holding a spade

CRITICAL NOTES: The scenes of the Passion of Christ ( a 15 c. completion of the episodes of the Life of Jesus in the New Testament window -sII), have been painted by two glaziers: Pietro da Velate (pre-1525) and Currado Mochis da Colonia (about 1544) who finished the upper part of the window and perhaps also the rose. The delicate palette characteristic of the Holy Apostles window (Cathedral, window nXII, 1567), and particularly the close analogies with the Saint James Major panel, indicate that this is evidently painted by Currado Mochis on cartoons by Carlo Urbini ( C.Pirina).

CONDITION: Some heavy mending leads. The tresses of the Magdalene are a modern replacement.
